So instead, DOCSIS uses the TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) technique that is also used in cellular telephony. With TDMA, the channel is sliced into small timeslots—called “minislots”—that are then doled out to the cable modems (CMs) by the cable operator’s CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System).
