In a typical system, the telephone central office is connected to each subscriber by one or more #24 or #26 copper wire unshielded twisted pairs, with one for each telephone number. The lines are not shared. The cable runs vary from a few hundred feet to a maximum of 9000 to 18,000 feet (2.7 to 5.5 km). The system was designed to carry voice in the 0- to 4-kHz range. Early in the Internet era, dialup modems were designed to carry digital data over these analog lines. Special QAM modulation and encoding schemes allowed data to be carried at rates to about 56 kbits/s maximum. Then the DSL system was developed to carry much higher speeds.

Coincidentally, one of the modulations for the upstream direction in DOCSIS is the same as with our 9600 bps modem. But with 1600 kHz rather than 3.1 kHz to work with, DOCSIS 2.0 supports a symbol rate from 160 to 5120 kHz and 2 to 7 bits per symbol, using QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying, two bits per symbol) and 8QAM to 128QAM (3 to 7 bits per symbol).

This however, got me thinking. As there is both a Cine 7 TX and a RX, why couldn’t SmallHD and Teradek have made a system where you could interchange modules. For instance if you wanted to use the Cine 7 TX on your camera as a monitor and transmiiter but then wanted to turn it into a wireless receiver wouldn’t it be nice to just be able to take out a wireless TX and slip in a wireless reveiver?

The nice thing about the built-in Bolt wireless receiver is that it is fairly easy to pair up with a Bolt transmitter or the Cine 7 TX. This can be done directly from the wireless menu. There you can change the country region for operation of your wireless system as well as pair up a new transmitter.

Ryan Sneller IT/TV Tower Consultantfor Kiowa County entered the meeting to discuss the power supply for the FOX transmitter. Sneller reported the input antenna took a big hit during the snow storm and had to be replaced. Sneller also reported the lights on the tower keep flipping the breaker. He has not found the solution to getting it fixed.
