If a fault needs to be fixed, ground crews can be waiting when the airplane lands. Schmutz says FLYHT, which started operations in 1998, has seen an uptick in interest for its products after the incidents of the last decade. The company has partnered with recorder manufacturer L3 to offer its technology in future Airbus A320 airliners. But airlines haven’t been beating down the doors for AFIRS—at least not yet.
