Subcarrier multiplexing: more than just capacity | Analog Cable Tv Modulator

A Wi-Charge transmitter mounted on a wall or ceiling sends a focused beam of infrared light to a tiny photovoltaic cell on a Wi-Charge receiver. As you’ve probably guessed, the system depends on the transmitter and receiver being in line of sight of each other. But to avoid requiring the transmitter and receiver to also be perpendicular to each other, a tiny mirror mounted on the transmitter focuses the beam of light onto the receiver’s photovoltaic. The photovoltaic cell then produces electricity by using the photons in that beam of light to knock electrons off atoms. The resulting flow of electricity is then pumped into a battery connected to the device.

The microphone is a retractable ClearCast microphone, and although it does have a hint of compression, the sound itself is clean, the noise floor is low, even compared with wired headsets, and we honestly can’t remember testing a better microphone on a wireless headset.

Delta-sigma modulators offer a number of advantages. They help to reduce the analog signals in the analog circuitry of the converter, along with additional advantage of high speed analog circuits. Delta-sigma modulators also help to reduce sampling rate as it is usually observed that modulator samples are oversampled.

Crosstalk arises from the WDM system components as well as the fiber itself. The multiplexer has critical performance parameters such as insertion loss and directivity but contributes negligible crosstalk. Transmission through the optical fiber generates WDM crosstalk because the fiber material has optical nonlinearities. Through the nonlinearities, the optical power of one channel can modulate the polarization, phase, or intensity of the other channels. Since cable-TV lightwave systems are intensity-modulated direct-detection systems, only intensity modulation at the output results in crosstalk. An optical nonlinearity that generates cross-intensity modulation, therefore, directly generates crosstalk. Optical nonlinearities that produce polarization or phase modulation must be accompanied by another mechanism to convert the nonlinearities to intensity modulation.
