Most cable systems are based on the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS). Developed by CableLabs in cooperation with the industry, DOCSIS defines the operating system and the hardware specifications. Version 1.0 was introduced in 1997. DOCSIS 2.0 came along in 2001, and DOCSIS 3.0 was released in 2006. Most systems use the latest version, which is IPv6 capable. DOCSIS also provides multiple security options including a Baseline Privacy Interface (BPI) or security (SEC) option. The 56-bit DES and AES 128 encryption methods are available, as is public key infrastructure (PKI) authentication.

The earcups are classic mesh material, more tightly weaved than with most others, and very comfortable during even extended gaming sessions. It doesn’t ventilate as much as some others, but the passive noise reduction is at the same level as leatherette based fabrics.

Like all SmallHD monitors, the Cine 7 uses the same PageBuilder OS graphical user interface (GUI). SmallHD built the PageBuilder OS to make menus less confusing. PageBuilder is a very customizable system as it allows you to selectively apply monitoring tools such as waveform, vectorscope, multiview, LUTs, and focusing aids on different “pages”. These pages can be easily flipped by using the touchscreen capabilities.

Most consumers use cable TV or DSL for Internet service. However, there are instances where other methods are desirable or necessary. In many areas where new homes are being built, installing fiber-optic cable directly to the home (FTTH) is no more expensive. For example, Verizon’s FIOS system isn’t widely available but does provide services with typical rates from 50 to 100 Mbits/s.

The global pressure transmitter market has been segmented on the basis of type, communication protocol, sensing technology, application, and industry. Based on type, the pressure transmitter market has been segmented into absolute, gauge, differential pressure, and multivariable pressure transmitters. Based on communication protocol, the pressure transmitter market has been segmented into HART (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) and wireless HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and others.

One of the most active of these is the aforementioned Jim Andrews (station call sign KH6HTV). He’s a retired electrical engineer and spends his time just about equally in Maui, Hawaii and Boulder, Colo. His experimentation with analog television on the ham bands (amateurs are allocated several chunks of RF spectrum real estate in the UHF and higher frequency bands) also goes back to the 1970s. However, the DTV bug eventually bit, with Andrews making his initial move about five years ago.

McComb says the NTSB receives on average 550 to 600 devices a year, and that number includes data and cockpit recorders as well as GPS units, iPhones, and tablets—reflecting the growing popularity of aviation apps, such as ForeFlight Mobile and Garmin Pilot, which have digital logbooks and provide tools for flight planning and navigation. The prevalence of private pilots recording their own flights has provided investigators new tools in deciphering the causes of general aviation crashes, but also new challenges. The agency has devoted an entire room to extracting data from these devices, which, unlike black boxes, are not designed to survive accidents. Recorder specialists must rely on all sorts of high-tech tools—high-powered microscopes, X-ray machines, and the like—to survey and repair tiny damaged memory chips. “All this,” says McComb surveying the space, “never even existed 10 years ago.”

This may sound like a riduculous question to ask, but with everyone watching content on differnt screens and types of screens, it’s a legitimate question.

QAM is use everywhere because it is very spectrally efficient meaning that it can transmit more bits per Hz of bandwidth than almost any other modulation method.  It is used in HSPA and LTE OFDM cellular systems, Wi-Fi, cable TV, DSL modems and a wide range of microwave backhaul, and satellite systems.  It is hard to beat QAM despite the fact that it needs a better than average signal to noise ratio and linear power amplifiers for reliable communications. 

So what do you do? Boycott, bend over, municipal ISP? I don’t know. Hopefully soon we’ll be able to chose from each ISP, in each major US city, nationwide. We need some kind of disruptor in the ISP space. We need more choices.
