Now, there are some caveats. If you are using an ARRI AMIRA the ethernet port is located behind the media door so the door has to be open to use it. This is fine for interviews on a tripod but unusable if you had the camera on your shoulder.

There are many advantages of using display control and management systems. Few of them are immediate distribution of content on the basis of customer habits, elimination of manual labor which was earlier involved in display-to-display updates, maximization of promotion and advertising capabilities in public surroundings.

The battery indicator on the Xbox is sadly useless, and we couldn’t find an alternate way to read the battery level when using the wireless dongle through the SteelEngine software on PC either. This is most likely due to the way the dongle works. A small LED indicator is something we would strongly suggest for future iterations.

You used to need a couple racks of modulator modules and related gear to accumulate and combine a full complement of TV channel signals that were ready to transmit. Now, you can do most of that with a couple of ICs. Maxim Integrated’s MAX5880 and MAX5882 chip set lets you assemble 128 channels of quadrature-amplitude modulated video ready for transmission.

These higher level FSK methods of modulation and demodulation are difficult to implement so are a general pain to use.  But CML Microcircuits now has their CMX7164 IC, a modem that includes full 2FSK, 4FSK, 8FSK and 16FSK.  It does the modulation and demodulation digitally with DSP so you never have to worry about it.  The chip supports symbol rates of 2k to 10k symbols per second.  At the full symbol rate using 16FSK you can get 40 kb/s through a 25 kHz wide channel.  The chip includes full data filtering before modulation using a root raised cosine filter with an alpha (α) of 0.2.  Sinc filtering is optional.  The interface to the system microcontroller is by way of a serial C-BUS.  The CMX7164 is still just a modem so you need to add the external transmitter and receiver circuits.  But it is now easier than ever to use higher level FSK and you can reap the benefits of non-linear PAs and higher data rates.

To make VDSL2 even faster, companies like Broadcom, Ikanos, and Lantiq are implementing VDSL2 chips with a feature called vectoring. This digital signal processing technique cancels noise and far-end crosstalk (FEXT) between bundled twisted pairs, enabling high speeds. These new chips also implement channel bonding that permits two twisted pairs to be used simultaneously to further increase speed to 200 Mbits/s downstream and 100 Mbits/s upstream. For example, the Ikanos’ Vx185-HP communications processor chipset implements VDSL2 as well as vectoring and channel bonding in a home gateway (Fig. 5).

Speaking of modulation sources, MicroFreak offers three main modulators: two envelopes and an LFO. The regular Envelope (Attack, Decay/Release and Sustain) is hardwired to the filter, with cutoff mod depth applied with the bipolar Filter Amt knob. This envelope can also govern amplitude when the Amp Mod toggle button is engaged.
